Mitjançant un mecanisme de mòlta ceràmica, el molí requereix un moviment en sentit horari per activar-se. Els molins es poden utilitzar per moldre sal de roca (cristalls de sal seca) o grans de pebre negre. No s'ha d'utilitzar per a sal marina, sal humida, sal humida seca o grans de pebre rosa.
